District #9 Meeting at Yutan

Ed Perley - 4/21/2024

The District 9 Meetingwas held at the Yutan Country Club, Sunday afternoon at 2:00 PM. TheCubby’s convenience store donated Godfathers pizza to feed everyone. The Legion Auxiliary and other supporters helped with the serving and they provided additional food and refreshments.

District officers were elected and sworn in. We were informed about a statewide raffle that we will be asked to sell tickets for. First prize will be a $10,000 vacation to anywhere the winner desires. Second prize will be $3000.00, and Third Prize will be $2000.00. The prize drawing will be in June.

OurState Commander, Chris Beaty, addressed the gathering. He led a discussion about what things we can do to strengthenour posts and boost our active membership. This is becoming increasingly important, because our active members are aging, and need to pass the torch to younger members.

We discussed the issues that our individual posts are dealing with and their activities and programs. Mr. Beaty suggested that eachpost could appoint a team of four people to visit inactive members to encourage them to become more active and ask them for suggestions about what we should be doing.

We were informed that the State Convention will be held June 8 and 9 at the Ramada Inn at Columbus.
