Nov 10, 2023 Veterans Day Ceremony

Ed Perley - 11/14/2023

A Veterans Day Ceremony was held at the Yutan High School, Friday, November 10.
Hank Sauer Gave the welcoming address.  He presented a flag for the First Grade.  They will keep possession of the flag until they graduate from high school, and then present it to the next First Grade class.

A couple of service dogs were shown by Bob Weigand and and Lyris White. They informed us how they can meet the needs of veterans.   Some are trained to provide physical assistance,  others provide therapy for veterans who are dealing with mental health problems.

Our guest speaker, Richard Oliva,  talked about veterans who are hurting, and how on the average, 22 veterans commit suicide every week.  He called on our veterans to be resilient, to seek help if they are having mental problems.  He also reminded us that about 20 young people commit suicide every week.  He urged us to provide help for troubled children too.

The Yutan High School Band, the High School Choir,  the First Grade Chior,  and the Sixth Grade Chior performed for us.

Emmy and Alaina Ray gave a very professional and precise demonstration of the formal folding of the flag into a triangle that it is done by military honor guards.

Hank Sauer presented the VFW awards for Patriot's Pen, Voice of Democracy, and Teacher of he Year.

The American Legion Auxilliary provided a lunch for all at the attendees at the the Country Club.  A big thanks to the Chip Resterant at Wahoo for providing the food.

A big THANK YOU for all of those who contributed to and attended the event!
