The Yutan VFW and American Legion took part in a Veterans Day program at the Yutan High School gym on Monday, November 11. It was attended. Veterans, and a large audience consisting of students and local residents attended. The Legion and VFW provided the color guard.
Hank Sauer gave the welcome address.
He presented a flag as he has done every year to the First Grade. They were asked to keep the flag and present it to the next First Grade after they graduate.
Two students, Emmy and Alaina Ray, demonstrated how to fold the flag.
The guest speaker was Sherry Loos, a First Grade teacher. We were reminded of how many of our veterans are in difficult situations, and how many have committed suicide.
The First Grade Choir presented a rap version of the Pledge of Allegiance. The Yutan High School band played the marches of the Armed Services. John Higgins and Janet Day, of the High School Choir sang "God Bless the USA."
Hank Sauer announced awards for Teacher of the Year, Voice of Democracy, and Patriot's Pen.
The ceremony was concluded with the playing of Taps by Yutan Band members Madalynn Bussing and Kingsley Smith, and the retirement of the colors.
Lunch at the Country Club was provided for all by the American Legion Auxiliary and Chip Restaurant in Wahoo.
