Omaha Student Awarded Top National VFW Scholarship

Kumar awarded first place, $30,000 scholarship prize out of more than 51,000 entries

 
WASHINGTON (March 3, 2020) – The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) is proud to announce Shruthi Kumar, a senior at Marian High School in Omaha, Nebraska, was named first place national winner and recipient of the $30,000 T.C. Selman Memorial Scholarship award in its 2019-2020 Voice of Democracy scholarship program.
The announcement was made during last night’s Parade of Winners ceremony at the 2020 VFW Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C., where Shruthi was presented with her $30,000 award and delivered her winning speech. VFW Post 1581 in Omaha, Nebraska, sponsored Shruthi.
